Become a Mentor in Vancouver and Help Our Youth Thrive!

Are you based in Vancouver and ready to make a meaningful difference? The team at EMBERS Canada invites you to become a mentor and support young people navigating the transition into training, education and employment. Contact Lynne at lynne@emberscanada.org to learn more and register.

Why mentorship matters

At EMBERS Canada, we recognize that not every young person has access to a reliable guide or champion when it comes to launching their career or entering training. By stepping up as a mentor, you offer your time, experience and encouragement to help youth overcome barriers and discover their potential. When it comes to navigating the future, not all youth have the support they need. This is your opportunity to fill that gap.

What you’ll do as a mentor

If you join as a mentor with EMBERS Canada, here’s what the role looks like:

  • Attend a one-hour training session to prepare for the mentor role.

  • Commit to regular meetings with your mentee, either in person in Vancouver or online, over at least a 3-month period.

  • Participate in a monthly 30-minute meetup with other mentors, sharing experiences and insights.

  • Receive guidance and support from the program’s mentorship manager.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need to be a subject-matter expert in the youth’s specific field. What matters most is your willingness to give time, listen, encourage and share your path! The necessary qualifications and details are below:

  • Mentors are students, employees, entrepreneurs and other adults willing to invest their time.

  • Mentors must be at least 25 years old.

  • Mentors do not need to be an expert in their mentee’s chosen field.

  • Mentors make a 3-month commitment to their mentee. Mentors and mentees are free to continue the relationship after 3 months.

  • To secure the environment for mentees, EMBERS pays for a criminal background check for all mentors.
